The HIV Coordinating Unit is charged with implementing the provisions of the National Workplace Policy on HIV and AIDS.
The HIV Coordinating Unit is charged with implementing the provisions of the National Workplace Policy on HIV and AIDS. It is also tasked with removing the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS in the workplace by educating and informing staff about the virus; which is important to creating a safe, healthy and productive working environment. This will ensure that the rights of HIV and AIDS infected workers are met.
The core objectives of the department are in line with the overreaching goals of the National HIV and AIDS Strategic Plan 2013-2018:
• To reduce the incidence of HIV infections in Trinidad and Tobago;
• To mitigate the negative impact of HIV and AIDS in persons living with HIV and affected by HIV and AIDS in Trinidad and Tobago;
• To reduce HIV and AIDS related discrimination in Trinidad and Tobago.
